tangled cable

I hope I never have to wind a cable onto a winch again. First, the cable is tangled, and it takes 3 hours to untangle the 300 m cable. Then, we extend the cable along one of the two main roads in Ny Alesund - apparently the road is about 300 m (we inadvertently measured it with our cable) and other residents of Ny Alesund find our work rather amusing. Finally, we wind the cable onto the winch. 

Today we worked on the winches and programmed our field equipment. Unfortunately one of the CTDs is not recognizing the computer, so we may not be able to use it. Alas, the inevitable struggles of field work! It looks like we will finally get out in the boats tomorrow, which would be wonderful.
